About

I love to read, and write, and edit. I also like being outside as much as possible, long breakfasts, and waning light. I’m a pretty big fan of my film cameras, and usually shoot with a combination of film and digital. Film may be a dying breed, but I want to keep it alive for as long as possible. It’s got soul. I’m forced to slow down and really see (and feel) the world with film. For that reason, it’s worth more than gold to me.

My approach to photography is pretty simple. David Alan Harvey said it best: “Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.” And I really love that. If you can capture even a little bit of how a scene or moment in time made you feel, and make other people feel it too – that’s something to be proud of. I try my best to photograph things, places, and people with this knowledge in the back of my mind.

  1. Hello, Sarah
I’m quite new at photography (I really love it!) and I’ve been admiring your works. Would you mind sharing what digital camera you’re using and the lense(s), especially for those beautiful food photos of yours? Or were they all taken with films instead?

  2. hi sarah! i came across your photography by accident on instagram. and i’m a huge fan! if you ever want to come to austin, texas to visit, please let me know. i would love to hire you to shoot my portrait for me and my family. and you have a place to stay!

  3. Beautiful blog…I love your photographic style. I have a Mamiyaflex that I bought new in 1961. I used to shoot weddings with it in the 1970s and 80s. A dandy TLR and largely unappreciated.

    • yes! they’re heavy beasts though, not super great for traveling but i try to take mine anyway when i can. i don’t know if the flex is lighter than the c330 🙂 i’m sure it did a beautiful job for weddings. thanks for your kind words!
